Visit to University College Cork

The FOCUS Delegation from Libya visited University College Cork (UCC) on the 22nd and 23rd May, 2013. The delegation comprised eight people, representing three Libyan universities, namely: Omar Almukhtar University; University of Benghazi and the Libyan International Medical University.    The workshop/practical session was organised in order to acquire practical knowledge and management skills concerning the day-to-day operation of a Quality Unit at the UCC which has a long experience in implementing quality culture within its institution through operational integrated quality unit in place. Partners were invited to participate in daily activities of the unit.  The group began their visit to University College Cork on Wednesday 22nd May and were warmly welcomed by the new Director of the Quality Promotion Unit, Ms Fiona Crozier. Staff from University College Cork was on hand to meet with the group throughout the 2-day visit. On Wednesday, presentations were made to the delegation on various topics, such as: Teaching and Learning; Online and Blended Learning; University Governance; Registry and Data Systems and the Student Experience in UCC. The group also enjoyed a guided tour of the university campus during that day. A reception to welcome the Libyan delegates was held in the Staff Common Room and was well attended by various categories of UCC staff. Many contacts between the Libyan delegation and the university staff were established during the reception. The welcome address was performed by Professor Paul Giller, Registrar and Senior Vice-President (Academic).  Follwoing that, presentations were made to the FOCUS group on a number of other relevant subjects, including: the Approval Process of Academic Programmes; Student Counselling; Buildings and Estates Services; IT Support; Strategic Planning; Institutional Research and Adult Education. The FOCUS group also met with a representative from the Students Union and the Manager from the College of Medicine and Health. A presentation and tour of the Boole Library facilities was also enjoyed by the Libyan group. The Libyans engaged with everyone they met during their visit to U.C.C.. Presenters were impressed by their inquisitive and insightful questions.
